Itinerary
We leave Inverness and travel north through Easter Ross, enjoying coastal scenery along the Moray Firth as we head toward Sutherland. Your guide introduces the landscape, history, and folklore of the northern Highlands as the scenery opens up.
Our first stop is the Mermaid of the North near Balintore, a striking coastal sculpture rooted in local Highland folklore and part of the Seaboard Sculpture Trail. We then continue north past Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve, a beautiful tidal basin known for its birdlife and the common seals often spotted resting on the sandbanks at low tide.
We stop at Carn Liath Broch, one of the best-preserved Iron Age brochs in the Highlands, offering a fascinating glimpse into prehistoric life. From here, we continue to the highlight of the day — Dunrobin Castle. Guests have time to explore the castle’s grand interiors and French-style gardens, with optional falconry displays at 11:30am (subject to availability).
We stop in the historic town of Dornoch for lunch and free time. Guests can choose from local cafés, visit the 13th-century cathedral, or enjoy a short walk through this charming coastal town.
After lunch, we begin the scenic journey south, crossing the Dornoch Firth and travelling back toward Inverness. Along the way, enjoy Highland landscapes, photo opportunities, and a relaxed drive before arriving back in the city.
